As you take this in, bare in mind that each of us are different, with our own unique blueprint or fingerprint when it comes to what works best for us.
These are the five I’ve found to be particularly useful – how about you?
1. Quit multitasking – fess-up time! this is one I’ve been addicted to.
I will however make one exception – when our minds are busy and our hands are free. Michael McQueen covers this one well in several of his books.
Can you relate to ending up drawing a blank in terms of whatI was just doing (before I started multi-tasking) and have a tendency to disappear down the proverbial ‘rabbit hole’..
2. Prioritise – at the beginning of the day and each week. Plus re-prioritising especially if I find myself off track.
3. Delegate – handy for all items on my priority list that are not in the ‘important’ category, then being mentally robust to not pick them back up again!
4. Hardest things first – tackle the gnarliest, chewiest things first so that I experience a sense of progress and relative brain-ease.
This is ideal for those of us who are our freshest at the beginning of the day so we can do our best work first thing.
If somebody’s wanting to get my attention at 7 or 8 pm, unless it’s a social catch-up, it’s unlikely that I’m actually even going to be awake.
5. Set small goals – Setting smaller bite-sized goals within the larger projects also helps with that sense of progress rather than facing a constant daunting task.
Have you found effective solutions for getting focused and productive? I’d love to hear.
Until I see you on this week’s #AlivewithFi, have a goodie 🙂
