I came across a book I haven’t yet read although I’m eager to get to – it’s by Nicola Turner and is titled Living Lightly.¹ As you know, I’ve been making videos about this for a couple of years now and it’s a topic close to my heart.

As with many topics, it’s a personal thing. For me, part of living lightly involves leaving behind a small footprint.

This might include being active with recycling, reducing my consumption of items that damage the planet…basically targeting ways to minimize my environmental impact.

I recently spent a delightful four hours with my sister and brother-in-law on a trap-check hike here in New Zealand. Many endangered species are threatened by introduced predators including cats, stoats, weasels, ferrets, and possums, which have caused significant problems for our native birds to the point of near extinction for too many species. It was wonderful to contribute to this cause and experience the beauty of our natural environment.

Another way we can live lightly is by downsizing and needing less, which is a key focus of Nicola’s book. These approaches all contribute to reducing our footprint on the planet.

What do you think about living lightly – I’m curious to learn what it means for you? I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on this week’s #AlivewithFi..
