Financial Health Coach, Chris Folland, has a question for us this week that may not be what it first seems.
Over to Chris…
Here’s this week’s question: – do you have an MBA?
And by that I don’t mean a Masters in Business Administration.
As we get older, we’re essentially told that getting an education will get us better paying jobs. However, that’s just comparing the poverty level to degree earners, rather than degree earners to investment earners. 1
It’s the latter that gets you a totally different MBA – namely what I call a million dollar bank account.
For example, when I was a lawyer, I was working super-hard although I was still low-level broke.
What I needed to do was learn how to make money in the real world and get ahead. It took me a while to realise that being trained in one particular area (law), wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to go.
A key insight for me was understanding that I didn’t need to stay with something just because I was trained in it. I needed to select a different ‘vehicle’ to get me where I wanted to go.
We’re all sold a story about what we’re supposed to do.
The real question is, what do you want to do?
If you’d like to get money sorted for you, and your own MBA (million dollar bank account) then it might be time to adjust the track you’re on.
If you’d like to chat about your own MBA, then message me, and I’ll see you on this week’s #AliveWithFi when we’ll explore this topic further.
1 We’re taught to believe that getting an education is the way to gain wealth, although the real way to get an MBA is through investing – “a majority of people in this world are consumers and not investors. But investing is essential to building wealth.”
The most effective way I’ve found to experience more of what we do want, is to find someone who has exactly that, and ask them what the specific steps are that they took to get there.
