Is conscious living doable and if so, why would we bother?
One take on this hot topic is that it’s about being more aware, and existing in the here and now.
Sounds good although how exactly do we do that – and before we go there – is it worth it?
My experience with this concept resumed when I began spending more time away from concrete and busy-ness. Less time being bombarded by advertising messaging, internet connections and general noise.
I noticed feeling serenity more of the time once we moved out here to the sticks in rural New Zealand, which reminds me in some ways of growing up in the south of England where we were surrounded by fields and space.
The part of my life from rural UK living to now in the NZ countryside has involved mostly city-living – be it in Auckland, global travelling and before that in Oxford, Kent and Sussex, Kent and Oxford to study.
Over the decades I’ve always felt such a sense of peace and calm when I’ve headed away from the city and these breaks have often had a huge positive influence in various areas of my life.
So how on earth can we live consciously if it’s something that we choose to do?
It’s worth checking out the link in the blog 1 (if you aren’t getting yours, you’re missing out! just PM me to be kept in the loop) for useful thoughts on the how-to’s.
Here are a few to get us started – firstly being aware of choices we’re making.
So rather than simply reacting to a perceived sense of pressure, instead we can pause and weigh up the most ideal response that takes into account everyone’s needs.
Secondly is clarity on the values that I’m living. Our values are what drives the decisions we make in the first place.
(I’ve discovered that my values that are the backdrop for each of the choices I make are Health, Love (namely aiming to come from a place of love rather than fear when I’m responding),my Relationships and Integrity. How about you?)
Self-acceptance is third, andas you’ll see from the self focus topic that we covered last week that I’m maturing into this one.
How about you – is conscious living something that just seems a bit woo woo to you (reserved for naval-gazers) or something that you do consider for yourself?
We’ll go a little bit deeper on this week’s with #ALivewithFi – see you then!
