I particularly love this word ‘humdinger’ as it’s one my mum used a lot, and it was a ubiquitous part of our family jargon. So I was delighted when it popped up recently whilst I was reading You’re a Bad Ass by Jen Sincero.

This week, we’re all about focus, and the real humdinger that I’ve found when it comes to focus is the potential power of classical music. 1

It can be surprisingly valuable for helping us gather our mind into gear and it’s worth trialing it for yourself…find some classics you enjoy from the Baroque period, like Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.

Sounds of nature can also give remarkable results.

I’ve found it increases my productivity every time, and helps my stick-ability for the task at hand (especially in combo with regularly taking breaks and keeping hydrated).

Plus, what I’ve noticed my increased calmness. My sense of peace on the inside is greater, and I tend to find that I’m feeling closer to my ideal of how I like to be in the world.

I’m rather a type-A personality, which can come across as very direct and task orientated (with the ‘colour’ personality-typing method, I register as red, and with the ‘animals’ one, as a shark). However Chris is the opposite, and my preference is to be softer so as to enhance our harmony as we interact together, so classical music can be a game-changer for me.

Now enough about me. What about you? What’s your humdinger?

In the meantime, see you on this week’s #AliveWithFi – ciao for now ☺

1 The effect of music is universal and classical can be particularly powerful: “researchers at the University of Helsinki recently discovered that listening to classical music can alter gene functioning, which can lead to numerous benefits, including improved brain function.”
